Last Thursday or so I
started to get a little worried that I had no weekend plans yet. I wasn’t too
worried about Saturday—there are farmers markets and shops are opens and I had
errands to run—but I was concerned that I would have trouble occupying myself
on Sunday. And then it hit me: my circus school doesn’t do acroyoga/partner
acrobatics, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t an acroyoga community in
Geneva. So I started typing it into the search bar on Facebook, and sure
enough, there’s a group. And after a little digging, I discovered that there
was a workshop coming up that weekend in Lausanne!
Lausanne is not super
close to Geneva, but I’ve heard great things about it, and it’s not terribly
far away. According to Google Maps, it takes about an hour and a half to get
there via public transit. The workshop ran Saturday and Sunday, four hours each
day, so it seemed well worthwhile to go to Sunday’s portion.
It turns out Lausanne is lovely! The walk to the yoga place was short--about 10 minutes from the train station--and took me up a mountain that seemed to be a main shopping street.
I learned several new
things, which culminated in the sequence at the link above. AND, I learned that
there is an acroyoga group that meets for free jams in Geneva twice per week!
My Saturday was quite
successful as well. I went to Rive, which is near where Mom and I stayed my
first week in Geneva, and went to their farmers market. I found some more
fantastic strawberries and oranges and cheese, and then I went to the
patisserie that Mom and I fell in love with to get lunch: a mini brie sandwich,
a mini smoked salmon sandwich, chocolate milk, and a mini blueberry tart.
I ate all that and some strawberries and was incredibly content, and then watched Downton Abbey.

Coming up this
weekend, we have Friday and Monday off for Easter. I’d been really worrying
about finding something to do, but I finally found people to travel with (it
turns out no one was making plans far in advance), and I’ll be going to Lyon,
which is quite close (2 hrs by bus). Apparently there are incredible vineyards
just north of there, so I’m hoping to go wine tasting and eat lots of great
food. I will let you all know how it goes!
Things that are making
me happy:
- The sounds of the birds on my street—they’re different from anywhere else I’ve been in the city
- Finding my acro community!
- New sunglasses that Jeff got for me right before I came here. I love them.
- Books!
PS: How interested are you (readers) in hearing more about my work rather than extracurriculars?
